I have heard people testify and say, “I don’t know what the Lord saw in me that made him want to call me, to save me.”  I have asked the same question myself.  Maybe we ask hoping there is some quality, no matter how small, that we have overlooked; and that we do in fact hold some value within ourselves that causes God to regard us.  The answer?  It is not found in us.  Paul stated in Romans 7:18 that in him (Paul, and us as well) there dwells no good thing.  The Lord does not call any of us because of a single positive quality we possess.  He calls us because of all the qualities He possesses …  simply put, He is merciful, He is gracious, He loves us and we need Him.

Paul writing in Ephesians 2:4-9 says,  ”But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,  Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)  And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:  That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.  For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:   Not of works, lest any man should boast.”

The grace of God levels the playing field.  We don’t have to hope that we are better qualified than someone else for God to “take notice” of us.  It’s not based on how talented or good looking you are or how successful you are in business.  You cannot be too mean for him to call you, and you can’t be so good that you don’t need him to call you.  We all have sinned and need his grace, mercy, and love.  The answer is in him.  Isn’t He GREAT!?!?

God bless and have a great week!
